Scott Milburn is the owner and principal botanist at Midwest Natural Resources, Inc (MNR). He holds a B.S. in Botany (Iowa State University) and an M.S. in Biological Sciences (University of Mississippi) with over 14 years of professional experience in the natural resource consulting field. His responsibilities include managing the day-to-day operations at MNR (proposal writing, project management, staff coordination, marketing, and accounting) in addition to field work.

His natural resource expertise includes rare species, vegetation monitoring methodologies and implementation, wetlands and wetland biogeochemistry, and native plant community documentation/mapping. His particular professional interests include calcareous fens and calciphiles, Botrychium/Sceptridium species, prairie communities, and specialized rare species work. He is respected by the regulatory agencies for his knowledge and proven results, particularly with rare plants and native plant communities.

 Mr. Milburn is on the MN DNR’s list of qualified surveyors for rare plant species as well as the list specific to federally listed plant species and Botrychium. He also holds a special permit through the MN DNR to collect specimens of state-listed species. He is both a Professional Wetland Scientist (PWS) and a Minnesota Certified Wetland Delineator (CWD). He also currently serves as the Chair for the MN DNR Commissioner’s Advisory Committee and President of the Minnesota Native Plant Society (2006-2014).
